I'm in love...

(well, with him - of course)

...but I fell hard for this sweater pattern designed by Shelley Mackie as soon as I saw it online.

Isn't it stunning?

The design is amazing, the colours are fabulous (72 colours to choose from!) and I'm just so excited about its construction! I immediately joined the Pinwheel Sweater Along because I have to make this sweater. I have no idea whether I'll make the kids or adult version (although I'm strongly leaning towards making it for me...I guess I'm not a philanthropic knitter) and I haven't decided on a colour scheme at all, but I need to make this sweater. I'm even ok with buying yarn online that I've never touched (!) to make this sweater. I've already dreamed about this sweater. As soon as I decide on colours [suggestions welcome!] I'll place my order and cast on. I just hope it looks good on me in the end.

Wall of Yarn - sneak preview

It seems that a few Wall of Yarn squares have made public appearances before the grand opening of the eagerly-awaited exhibit. While exploring online I saw Marianne's undersea adventure and Mummy Jo's celery floral both peeking out at the world. A quick google search led me to Dacia Ray's hand painted polka-dot square and shoofly's felted kitty-tag. My entry was sent in a panic before I knew of the deadline extension (thank goodness for extended deadlines!) but I did manage to take a couple of photos before it left on its grand adventure:

I used a concept from Debbie New's swatchless dishcloth vest, starting at a corner and using yarn over increases which create a lovely loopy edge. I wasn't quite sure how to decrease and maintain that edging (although I have an idea now!) so I cast off at my centre point, started another and grafted the two triangles together. I love grafting! Further inspired by Debbie New's Unexpected Knitting I wondered what would happen if I slid my needle through some stitches and started knitting. Well, this happened...and I love the result.

I can't wait until the exhibit opens later this week!

Now I don't know for certain, but I think that Marianne might just be the nicest person in the world!

new baby alert!

...but my friend is only three weeks along so I'll have LOTS of time to make the booties & socks that were requested for mid-February of next year.

As for the other babies in my life I've done a swatch for the Katja top.

(so cute!!)

The recipient is not quite six months old but growing fast so I'm going to do the twelve month size. I'm going to use a variegated green mercerized cotton. My gauge was a touch small so it will (hopefully) work out well. I don't want it too big because this is very specifically a summer top.

And the blanket is coming along much faster than I anticipated! That one is due July 16 and I can easily have it done in time to ship it to Calgary. Stay tuned for progress photos...

Hip Hip Hedera!

made with love and Lanett Superwash 100% merino wool

What a FUN lace pattern to knit! Thanks Cookie for designing it and Thanks Knitty for publishing it!

I plan to do a square at some point with a shifting hedera pattern (think a song sung in the round)...just to see how it works out.

pretty, pretty detail
